Star Shooting Lacrosse Drill Diagram

Drill Setup

  • Split players evenly into five lines: two low on the goal line, two high, and one at top center. This drill can be ran tight to the goal for quicker passing or more spread out for longer distance passing and shooting.

Drill Execution

  1. The first line with the balls passes across the star to the opposite side high line. The ball is then moved to the second high line, then down to the opposite low corner. Finally, the ball is passed to the top center line who steps into a shot.
  2. Players of each line follow their pass to the next line, ending with the shooter joining the first passing line.
  3. Teams can either wait until the shot is taken to start the next ball OR for a faster pace, can start the next rep prior to the first reps shot.
  4. This drill runs continously untill a reload of balls is required.

Coaching Points

  • Execution: Players should focus on quick and accurate passing clean execution of passing and shooting the ball ready to shoot, with their feet moving towards the goal.
  • Shooting: Emphasize shooting accuracy to challenge the goalies and improve shooting skills in dangerous areas.
  • Communication: If several balls are in play there can be a lot of moving parts, so players should be aware and communicate with the player they are passing to.
  • Keep the pace of the drill high to challenge your players.

Variations

  • Ground Balls: Instead of a pass in the air, some or all of the passes can be rolled along the ground.
  • Switch Hands: Require players to run the drill with their weak hands.
