A 4-on-3 break drill that emphasizes quick execution offensively and fundamental rotation repetitions for defenders.

Drill Setup
- Offensive players setup in 4 lines between the restraining line and the midline.
- Attack players can fill the outer lines while short-stick midfielders can fill the inner two lines.
- 3 close defenders are setup in a defensive triangle in front of the crease.
- The Coach is out wide from the path of the players with the balls.
- Substituting defenders or goalies can line up near the coach.
Drill Execution
- The Coach passes the ball to any of the 4 Offensive players.
- All 4 Offensive players will attack the goal on a 4-on-3 advantage situation.
- Once the ball is shot or a pass is dropped, players will exit the playing area out wide.
- The Coach will pass the ball to the next in line offensive players to commence the next rep.
Coaching Points
- Offense: The 4 attackers should aim to form a "box" with two high and two low. The receiver of the Coaches pass should aim to occupy one of the high positions.
- Defense: As the attackers enter into a threatening position, the top defender should apply pressure to the ball carrier with the other two defenders making the appropriate slides in sequence.
- This is an excellent warm-up drill to get both the body and mind active.
Variations
- Continuous Play: Allow the 4-on-3 to continue even in the case of a dropped pass. The drill will be dead when a shot is taken, the ball leaves the playing area, or when the defenders gain possession and outlet the ball to the coach.
- Second Ball: After the first rep is dead by a shot or a ball out of play, the Coach immediately passes a ball to one of the 4 Attackers to start a new possession.
